Salon: Picture Perfect

A picture is worth a thousand words and if two people were to describe the same picture in a thousand words, the two descriptions will probably differ in many ways. What the heck am I talking about? I am talking about THE PICTURE.

We have all dealt with the picture dilemma. The magazine page carefully torn out, cut out or dramatically ripped out by your client. The thumb stuck in the newest subscription of Marie Claire as you walk back to your station. Your client saw it and decided that their hair was going to look like that day in and day out for the next 8 weeks at the very least.

This all goes back to a making sure you begin with a very clear consultation and clear communication between you and your guest about the desired outcome.  One great thing to do with clients who have a picture is to talk about the key elements that you see and make sure that you both have the same vision. It is very important that the picture becomes more of an inspiration and less of an ultimate goal, because let's face it 99% of the time your client and the model do not have the same hair and the model was styled for 5 hours or more to achieve the look.

Another good tip is to make your client put their finger over the face of the model in the picture and if they still like the look, then it is a definite go. Sometimes we all just really want to look like the model no matter what is going on with the hair. Repeat back what you see and reiterate what your client is seeing so that there are NO misunderstandings.

The most important part is that you honor what your clients needs are, no matter how ridiculous it might sound. It could be as simple as that they just loved the bangs and did not notice the rest of the cut as much. Always remember stay positive because we make an impact on our clients and we want it to always be a positive one.
