Awe Inspiring: Educate

Education is something that is near and dear to my heart. I am an educator for KEVIN.MURPHY so I have a special appreciation for educators and what they do for us. The best part about education is, you learn a lot from teaching other people.  I am so lucky to work for a company where education is one of it's top priorities. Education should be everyone's top priority because education makes us stronger, more confident, and it makes us step outside of our comfort zone.

When was the last class you attended? For some of us, it might have been a week ago, for some it might be a month or so and for some it has been years. Whenever it was, it is OKAY! There is no better time to start educating yourself than right now.

Spend money on your career. It is so important that you give yourself the opportunity to hone your skill. If you are taking complimentary classes you might not be getting everything you need out of it. I am not saying that the free classes are not teaching you anything but normally there is more where that came from. A lot of people offer teasers and if you like the free stuff you should go all in for the paid classes.

Set aside an education budget for yourself. Even if it is a social media marketing class that you have been wanting to take. It is important to make sure you are giving yourself the time to nurture your craft. Take a trip to a class and make it a vacation with some education all in one. There are a lot of opportunities in surrounding states to take a class or do a workshop. Spend some money on yourself, you are worth it and your clients love to know that you are staying up to date on the trends and new techniques.

Follow your favorite artists on Facebook and Instagram. There are a lot of classes offered out there and you can see what classes other stylists are attending. Do you like someone's recent balayage? Reach out and ask them where they learned their techniques. In this day and age it is so much more about empowering our fellow stylist. We are all out to encourage and lift each other up. Do not be afraid to ask what other stylists are doing to educate themselves.

Hair shows are an excellent source of learning and education. A lot of shows offer extra hands on class experiences and or added paid classes where you can go more in depth on new techniques and trends.

If you are having a hard time finding education near you reach out to your local professional beauty supply. Often times there is a list of education events going on. Whatever you do don't wait any longer. Take the reins and keep bettering yourself. You will feel better and more confident.
