Awe Inspiring: The Hair of New York Fashion Week

On the heels of New York Fashion Week, it is pretty exciting to be able to share some inside information about what inspired some of the looks that have graced the internet post-show. One style in particular (blonde braid below) was raved about on Yahoo! as a favorite look from NYFW and styled by Kashmir Asvaraksh.

I caught up with Kashmir, who works at Viselli Salon in Boston and who also is a Diamond.Key educator for Kevin Murphy. Kashmir was invited to be a part of a very special group of stylists that were asked to work backstage for NYFW. Here is what she had to say:

Our salon was recently invited to be the hair sponsor for the Nancy Vuu show at the Dock for NYFW.   Nancy is internationally hailed as a children's couture designer but was launching her women's collection.

We wanted to keep the look light and feminine, a departure from the strong chignons and updos she had used for past collections. With side swept curls and pom-poms on the little girls, braids are what tied the entire collection together.    The look was also one full of volume, so all braids were pinned up on the head and tons of Kevin Murphy Powder.puff and Session.spray were used!

I want to give a big shout out to Kashmir for sharing her experience with us and giving us an inside look.

Inspiration is all around us! As a stylist there are so many opportunities, the sky is the limit.  Find out what events are going on in your area that could get you out from behind the salon chair and think outside of the box. Maybe there is a local business or local designer that needs some help with styling for a look book or a campaign. If you just can't wait, create your own photo shoot scenario: grab a few hair models, a local photographer and play.  Change is good and your clients will love to hear stories about you working hard to make new experiences that help you master your skills.
