Mind + Body: Massage

We work all day long with our hands up, to the side, twisting and contorting our body. We have wiggly clients, we have statuesque clients and the wet noodles. Needless to say our muscles definitely take a beating. Massage is a very important part of taking care all that complex frame work within your body. Wow, the body is an incredible thing... but don't take that for granted!  Getting a massage at the very least once a month is incredible and can make or break you. Preventative care is super important, so for those of you who are saying "I'm fine, my body doesn't hurt" you should probably schedule a massage immediately. I hope that your body never hurts and that you can work into the ripe old age of 99, if that is something that interests you.

There are different types of massage to choose from.

Swedish Massage: This is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax you but also energizes you. This is one of the most basic types of massage and many massage therapists provide this.

Deep Tissue: A slower deeper approach to getting into the muscles. This technique uses more forceful strokes to target a deeper layer of muscles which is great for muscle damage from injuries.

Sports Massage: Similar to Swedish, this technique is geared towards people who are active and involved in sports. It can help to prevent or treat injuries.

Trigger Point Massage: This technique focuses on areas of tight muscle fibers that can from in your muscles after an injury occurs of after overuse of that particular muscle group. Hmmm would you happen to say that about your shoulders after all day in the salon?

Whatever type of massage you decide to do is up to you but I would highly recommend putting it into the take care of yourself category of your life.

I understand that there is not always a budget for massage or your insurance might not cover it. You can always find a massage therapist to trade with and as I have found massage therapists can be some of the best people to send you new clients.  A nice little added benefit!
